Back in August, we here at Popdose were happy to run a contest sponsored by DKNY, featuring their DKNY Be Delicious fragrance. As I said back then, I love the smell of this stuff. No, not on me, silly readers — on my wife. It’s one of her favorite scents, and it does a good job of overpowering my natural odor, which is a cross between Old Spice “After Hours” deodorant and a bottle of Drakkar Noir that I accidentally spilled all over myself in 1993.

So when DKNY contacted me again recently to announce a new trio of fun scents entitled the DKNY Delicious Candy Apples Collection, and asked if I’d be interested in sharing the news with all of you (and giving away a batch, valued at $165!), I eagerly accepted. I mean, hey, I’m not going to use them, but people around me might be interested, and who couldn’t use a scent overhaul every once in a while? (By the way, if your wife/girlfriend/significant other asks you why you bought them this scent, DO NOT USE THIS LINE OF REASONING. Keep it to yourself. Trust me. )

Here’s what DKNY has to say about their new scents:

The limited edition Delicious Candy Apples Collection is the latest entry into the best-selling DKNY family of his and her fragrances. The three new fragrances are all about pairing the sweetness of candy with a ripe, juicy apple. The fragrances will be available in Sephora, Department stores and Perfumeries nationwide in February 2010 and the Collection will also be available online at DKNY.com.

· Sweet Caramel opens with candy apple, pear and marshmallow notes, which blend into a heart of jasmine, muguet and violet leaves and a drydown of caramel and vanilla.

· Ripe Raspberry opens with raspberry, apple and lime notes, a heart of peonies and lily, and a drydown of cola accord.

· Juicy Berry opens with black currant, blackberry, pear and lychee notes, blends into a heart of rose petals and apple blossom, and finishes with sandalwood and sugary blond woods.

You all know I am not a sophisticated person. I don’t even know what muguet is, let alone what it smells like. “Cola accord”? What? I’m just not the right person for this type of thing. So, of course, I gave each bottle to my wife, had her try it out, and take notes. Here’s what she had to say:

“Sweet Caramel: Smells sweet, more floral than the others. Smells like apple blossoms. (Me: “What the hell are apple blossoms?”) Doesn’t actually smell like caramel to me, though.”

“Ripe Raspberry: This one is more floral, and even a bit musky. It smells a touch spicy, perhaps like cardamom. (Me: “Stop using words I don’t know! You’re no better than DKNY!”) I don’t know if it’s that fruity…kind of like a perfume version of mulling spices.”

“Juicy Berry: Love it! Reminiscent of the ‘dewberry’ scent from The Body Shop. Smells like apples and maybe blackberry. This is my favorite.”

I absolutely agree with her — and just like that, DKNY Juicy Berry has replaced DKNY Be Delicious as her go-to scent.

Enough of the blah-blah-blah, how do I win?

Which one will be the perfume of choice for you or your loved ones? Well, DKNY has given us a pack of the DKNY Delicious Candy Apples Collection — all three scents, a $165 value! — for giveaway! Entering is simple: just send an e-mail with your name and mailing address to Robert Cass with the subject line “I want to smell great!” Robert doesn’t know we’re running this contest, and he doesn’t read my articles anymore, so I think this is rife with comedic possibilities. We’ll pick a lucky recipient at random on February 15th, so enter now! And watch this video from DKNY — if you don’t think it’s at least kind of cute, then you have no soul.
