Every now and again, a track comes along that speaks to me personally. Cali De La Rosa’s “Summer Baby” is one of them, mostly because I was born in August and her pounding, hypnotic take on nu-disco feels like oh-so-many summer nights when parties drag on into the wee hours of the morning.

Her new video for the single captures the best about summer, especially if it were 1969. I don’t think I’ve ever wanted to badly to crawl into a music video and stay there. She joins a few girlfriends in an epic retro throwback complete with Airstream trailer, records, and hair teased to high heaven.

It’s a contrast to the ultra-modern vibe of her music, but that’s part of the charm this track offers. If Lana Del Rey is too gloomy for you, Cali De La Rosa’s the perfect way to get your pop without the pout.
