Pulling Rank is a column in which Kelly Stitzel ranks a variety of pop culture-related things with little to no commentary, but sometimes with audio or visual accompaniment. There’s no scientific method to the rankings; these are just Kelly’s opinions. You’ll probably disagree with her — just don’t be a dick about it.
First of all, you should be listening to the entirety of the DiVinyls discography because it is wonderful and wholly underappreciated here in the States. But with the passing of lead singer Christina Amphlett — who, with her bombastic voice and generally bad-ass personality, has long been one of my favorite front women — I feel it’s necessary to ensure that you at least have a starting point if the only song from the Australian band’s catalogue you are familiar with is their ode to self pleasure. After you listen to these 10 songs, I encourage you to seek out the rest of the band’s work — I promise you will not regret it.
