As I was culling through my collection to put together this week’s mix, I wasn’t really sure  where to start. When you’re staring down 9 GB of ’80s remixes, it can be a little overwhelming.

My inspiration finally came as I was working on the second installment of my Filminism column — why not have a mix consisting of only female vocalists? Yes. Great idea.

I actually had a really hard time narrowing down which tracks to include this week — so many great songs sung by women to choose from! I decided not to include songs by any artists who appeared in previous mixes, so that helped a bit. And I wanted to make some unexpected choices, too — like the tracks from SSQ (that’s Stacey Q’s first band), Samantha Fox and Grace Jones. The result, I think, is a great mix of hits and tracks you may not be as familiar with. And I love it.

So, ladies, this mix is for you. Enjoy!
