Somnolent Regurgitation of the Scrolls of Proselytism

AlbumAlbum: Reptilian Death, The Dawn of Consummation and Emergence
Label: Old School Metal Records
Release: October 10, 2013
Genre: Technical Death Metal

Press: Reptilian Death has long existed in the shadows of the Indian metal scene as the side project of Demonic Resurrection frontman, Demonstealer. The band spent their first 12 years making sporadic live appearances and changing line-ups fairly often. During that time, Reptilian Death had an almost humorous disposition, writing little spoof metal epics like 5 Easy Ways To Murder Someone and Nursery Rhymes For Satan’s Children while balancing a handful of serious tracks which eventually found themselves on their 2004 debut, Total Annihilation. In 2006, the band’s direction took a turn for the serious with the release of their EP Intestinal Feast on the Defaced and Split album, which also featured Exhumation, Warface and Narsil.

Shortly after the release, the band returned to the shadows until resurfacing in early 2013. The band exploded on the scene completely metamorphosed into brand new beast. Fronted by Vinay Venkatesh (Bhaynak Maut), dressed in priestly robes with his face painted half black and half white and backed by a band of masked members Reptilian Death has moved out of the shadows and into the forefront of the global metal community. The world will now see The Dawn Of Consummation And Emergence.

The Hellgoat’s Take (8/10): The Hellgoat isn’t that familiar with the metal scene in India but these guys are no joke. They combine brutality and technical chops to create a record that is both ear-spliting and engaging at the same time. The Dawn of Consummation and Emergence marks a nice comeback record for this crew.

AlbumAlbum: Altars, Paramnesia
Label: Blood Harvest (LP version)
Release: September 27, 2013
Genre: Death Metal

Press: At long last, one of death metal’s best-kept secrets unleashes their debut album: Australian enigmas Altars and their heaving, harrowing Paramnesia. For the past four years, Altars have been quietly honing their craft across a demo, two splits, and a single, but on Paramnesia, the trio tear down all boundaries and set their sights for the abyss and ether alike. For Paramnesia is both death metal of a tangibly sepulchral, cavernously physical construct and yet brims with an almost-metaphysical levity as its serpentine structures and technical ecstasy work their black magick across its eight-song expense, reaching total transcendence during the final trio of tracks which comprise the three-part title track.

The Hellgoat’s Take (7.5/10): Evil, primordial death metal from the depths of hell. The first five tunes are slightly repetitive while the trilogy to close out the LP gets more experimental. Album closer, “Ouroborus (Paramnesia, Part III)” is a fucking beast.

AlbumAlbum: Praise the Flame, Profane Cult
Label: Blood Harvest (MLP version)
Release: September 27, 2013
Genre: Black / Thrash Metal

Press: Formed in the middle of 2012 in Santiago, Chile, Praise the Flame presented their first attack of hatred, Profane Cult, in early 2013. This brilliant MCD, originaly released through Apocalyptic Productions (Chile), contains five hymns of obscure and merciless death metal, with fast ‘n’ evil-sounding thrash in the vein of the early classic hordes of this style. Now, Blood Harvest will release a limited 12″ vinyl edition with [two] additional tracks, which includes a cover of the legendary Swedish band Unleashed.

The Hellgoat’s Take (8/10): Dirty, filthy, loud and fast as shit. This is some grimey black metal that you can bang your head to.

AlbumAlbum: Masada, Hideous Rot
Label: Blood Harvest
Release: September 27, 2013
Genre: Death Metal

Press: Behold, some of the most twisted original death metal around: Masada’s Hideous Rot, which is now seeing a 12″ vinyl pressing courtesy of Blood Harvest. Although the name might be new, Masada feature legendary scene vet Cazz “The Black Lourde of Crucifixion” Grant (Crucifier, ex-Grand Belial’s Key) on vocals and drums. Along with guitar/bass wizard Chris Milewski, Masada create complex, labyrinthine constructions that warp the mind and wrack one’s equilibrium, recalling the likes of Coroner, Timeghoul, mid-period Pestilence, and even later Death whilst keeping a unique identity all their own. Open your mind and let in Hideous Rot

The Hellgoat’s Take (5/10): Hideous sound mars Hideous Rot a bit. The low-fi (almost no-fi) recording sound is obviously intentional but it’s all a little too underproduced for the Hellgoat’s taste. And the instrumental filled with Clive Jones’ flute is remarkably out of place. Maybe it’s supposed to be experimental but it just comes across as odd.

AlbumAlbum: Malignant Asceticism, Ascensum Serpens
Label: Blood Harvest
Release: September 27, 2013
Genre: Black Metal

Press: Conceived in 2010, the will of Chile’s Malignant Asceticism is whispered and executed through those who walk the left-hand path, called to spread the message. Influenced by the most sinister currents of black metal, Ascensum Serpens gets inside the most sublime subjects of spiritual elevation, through the mysteries of sexual magick. A conscious trip inside the darkest paths, expressed through the traditional South American hate, Malignant Asceticism Ascensum Serpens 7″ EP speaks dark secrets: Our Word Is Spilled Blood, Seal of the Persistent, Existence After Existence!

The Hellgoat’s Take (6.5/10): More filthy noise, this time with a lo-fi black metal sound. It’s hard to get much of a feel for what these guys are capable of with only two tracks but they can clearly be loud and menacing but also seem to want to be a little experimental as well. “Seventh Breath” gets a little awkward at points and “The Black Dance” is kind of dull but the Hellgoat thinks there’s promise for the future.
