Friday Five : |ˈfrÄ«dÄ – fÄ«v| : On the sixth day of every week, I hit the shuffle button in iTunes and share the first five tracks and thought for each track. Sometimes there is a playlist involved, occasionally we’ll have a guest, but most of the time it’s just me. The rest is up to you, our friends and readers! Fire up the media player of your choice and share the first five random track of your shuffle in the comments.
The Five:
(This week’s Friday Five comes courtesy of my trusty iPod, with some Twitter-sized commentary due to day job deadlines. -MP)
“Caution” by Operation Ivy (from Operation Ivy, 1991)
Influenced an entire generation of punk rockers with just one record. Essential listening.
“Byebyelove” by Jimmy Eat World (from Damage, 2013)
Worst song on the best Jimmy Eat World record in a long time. Worth a listen.
“Two Coins” by City and Colour (from The Hurry and the Harm, 2013)
Strong contender for my favorite record of 2013. If you aren’t listening to this I’m not sure we can be friends.
“My Lover” by Barbara & The Browns (from The Complete Stax-Volt Singles: 1959-1968 (disc 4), 1991)
Classic groove in the gospel gone blue vain; The Complete Stax-Volt Singles never fails to deliver.
“Buffalo Gals” by Malcom McClaren & The World Famous Supreme Team (from Tommy Boy Presents: Hip Hop Essentials, Volume 8 (1979-1991), 2006)
“Buffalo Gals go ’round the outside, ’round the outside.” Classic golden era shit.
