Dead Men Walking are, for all intents and purposes, a new band of some very familiar faces – well, familiar if you grew up in the punk/new wave scene of the ’80’s. Old friends who happen to come from some legendary bands and found themselves having the time, drive and desire to do something together – something special. It’s a collaborative effort; everyone writes, everyone sings and everyone who hears it will love it – it’s impossible not to.
Starring the good Captain Sensible of The Damned, Mike Peters of The Alarm, Slim Jim Phantom (McDonald) of The Stray Cats and Chris Cheney of The Living End, what you have is a four-way powerhouse of rock/pop/punk/glam/rockabilly and unadulterated melodic energy that covers every delightful aspect of the rock & roll spectrum. Fourteen songs and not a bad track amongst them. Just to give you some of the more tasty morsels, “The Weather Song” – is both clever and powerful; a deep message enveloped in a great melody. “Song For Eddie” is a tribute to E. Cochran, which will is inspiring, especially for the younger generation who will hopefully get it and want to learn who the late, great Eddie Cochran was. “Dr. Henry” is a driving social critique and musically reminiscent of a few of the tracks from the wonderful “Universe Of Geoffrey Brown” album, which Captain Sensible released in 1992. “What If” is crisp, taut and could be a possible single; “Out On The Edge” is downright epic while “Love Of My Life” is a beautiful, warm way to close the album. Textured, rich and from the heart as you can imagine.
You will read and hear more from and about Dead Men Walking, using the phrase “punk supergroup” but that’s really a misnomer. They’re a band of rock and roll talents (and yes, legends) and the music is all you need to know. One lesson and you’ll want to come aboard. It’s impossible not to. Just find it and grab it.
