Trampled by Turtles

via press release: Minnesota acoustic 5-piece Trampled by Turtles are releasing a cover of The Pixies’ “Where is My Mind” today. The digital single is the first new recording TBT has made available since the release of their breakthrough album, Palomino, in 2010. The single is available as a free download on the band’s website or through any digital retailer for $.99, with all proceeds going to benefit WhyHunger, the organization founded by the late singer-songwriter Harry Chapin. WhyHunger supports grassroots solutions to inspire self-reliance and community empowerment to connect people to nutritious, affordable food.

While their quicksilver, high-energy playing that has made them a favorite on the tour and festival scene, it’s TBT’s songwriting that’s the key. All the band members all cut their teeth in rock, punk and metal bands — mandolinist Erik Berry can play Black Sabbath’s eponymous first album in its entirety – but also draw from the same well of inspiration as Townes Van Zant, Dylan, Neil Young and Bill Monroe, giving this classic genre their own unique spin. It’s no surprise that they’ve chosen a Pixies cover, or that they do it so well.
