I’ve been following basketball since I was a pre-teen (um, let’s just say that was twenty-something years ago), and I can’t remember a phenomenon like Jeremy Lin. Undrafted out of college, cut by the Golden State Warriors and the Houston Rockets before being picked up by the New York Knicks, Lin has jumped from ”who the hell is this dude?” status to potential MVP candidate in barely three weeks. In the process, he’s provided a feel-good story for the NBA (a league in which many players are not viewed in the most favorable light), and rejuvenated my hometown Knicks, who were shaping up to be the 2011-2012 season’s biggest disappointment.

Since Linsanity has taken just about every basketball fan in existence hostage (including me — I wrote a piece about it for my own site), it’s only right that New Yorker, basketball fan and Popdose buddy Julian Velard wound up writing a song about it. ”The Mighty Lin” is a bouncy tune that you can’t help but smile while listening to. If you dig that, make sure you also check out Julian’s latest album, Mr. Saturday Night, and keep an eye on his website for upcoming tour dates.
