Usually, summer is a traditionally quiet period in music, but this year, Popdose has been very fortunate to receive numerous premieres of new releases, etc. and this is no exception.  Another favorite of the ‘Dose is California psychedelic master Anton Barbeau, who released his latest masterpiece, Natural Causes, in April; this is the premiere of his video for the track “Summer Of Gold” (how apt!).  Here are a few words from Mr. Barbeau on the track’s emergence:

”Summer Of Gold” was written in Berlin, but is meant to capture a certain California light. The video was filmed on a farm in California with that in mind. I wrote ”Summer Of Gold” for Allyson Seconds’ Little World album, but I liked the song too much and had to have it for my own.

We’ve got Nick Saloman and Ade Shaw from The Bevis Frond on guitar and bass, and Michael Urbano (Todd Rundgren, Neil Finn) on drums. My vocal is a one-take scratch track. I wanted Natural Causes to have a glorious sound, thus I played 12-string guitar and Mellotron on every song on the album. There’s a version of ”Summer Of Gold” somewhere online featuring just Ade’s bass and my Mellotron track.

After the ”cats and lasers”/ kitchen sink of our previous video, the film we made for this song is downright naturalistic. That said, in contrast to the previously mentioned one-take vocal, this video took the better part of a year, from one summer to another, to get right.”

Hope you enjoy!
